mapping the mile
A community art project, pop-up street gallery and exhibition.
Creative concept, curation, event management
This project formed part of the Clapton Mile Festival in June 2011. Residents of E5 were invited to sketch their own personal maps of the neighbourhood, marking their favourite landmarks and points of interest. The maps were then displayed in an exhibition at a local independent booksellers, as well as in a pop-up street gallery on the Saturday of the festival, when passers by and festival goers were encouraged to draw their own maps.
The maps were used to inform the neighbourhood plan currently in development for the Clapton area, and the project was expanded into a school art workshop for the 2012 festival.
