FifthMan is a publishing project, led by Free: for architects AHMM, which provides a flexible platform through which the practice can share – both internally and externally – its work and ideas. The initiative offers many opportunities for experimentation and collaboration, and the space to query more established modes of communication in architecture.

The project output is a continuously evolving bookshelf, which carries publications in a variety of formats and includes both self-generated and originally commissioned material. The bookshelf is organised in loose strands which take different approaches to exploring the practice’s work, dependent on audience and communications objective. Each publication has a catalogue number and conforms to an identity system developed by designers Cartlidge Levene, reinforcing each separate piece as part of a coherent whole.
